La Sultana Marrakech
MARRAKESH, MARRAKECH-SAFI, MOROCCO
Our take
Twenty-eight rooms carved into the Kasbah, minutes from the Saadian Tombs, with rooftop views that make the city feel earned. The patios alone justify the rate — tilework and carved cedar that no renovation budget could fake. Come here for Marrakech at its most atmospheric: intimate, historically dense, genuinely beautiful. Skip it if you're chasing a sprawling spa complex or resort acreage — this is a riad at heart, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. Two or three nights of the medina done with real conviction.
Notable Features
- Rooftop terrace with panoramic views
- Proximity to historic sites like the Saadian Tombs
- Intricately designed patios
- Heated pool surrounded by gardens
💡 Insider Tip
"Book a cookery class on the terrace for an immersive culinary experience with views of the Atlas Mountains."
Overview
Tucked away at the heart of the Kasbah, La Sultana Marrakech is, in itself alone, a Moroccan adventure. With its patios expertly sculpted by master-craftsmen, its gardens and rooftops overlooking the city, it is close to the historic sites of the Saadian Tombs, the Royal Palace, the Bahia Palace, within the perimeter of the Medina listed in UNESCO's World Heritage.
The Sultana Marrakech offers 28 rooms and suites, all different, with decor enriched by artworks and collections of art, luxuriant gardens at the heart of the Kasbah, a heated pool, a roof-terrace of 2,000 sq. metres overlooking treasures of architecture, a spa and its treatment rooms, two restaurants, a cocktail and "mezze" bar, a gym, and a terrace dedicated to cookery classes.
The promise of an unforgettable stay, backed by the Moulay El Yazid Mosque, just a 10-minute walk to the famous Djemaa El-Fnaa Square, the inner heart of La Sultana beats to the vibrant rhythm of Marrakech.
Hidden from view and protecting its secrets, La Sultana unfurls panoramic views, vast and awe-inspiring, from the souks close by to distant landscapes in the Atlas mountains.
The hotel's Conciergerie is the starting-point for sensory immersion. An exercise for your gaze that winds its way around the ochre city, from urban safaris to guided heritage tours.
Shaped by ten centuries of history throughout the Almohad, Saadian and Alaouite dynasties, La Sultana decided to breathe new life into the legend of bygone eras in 2001. Its exceptional location near the Royal Palace in the Kasbah neighbourhood, listed as part of UNESCO's World Heritage, makes it an extraordinary destination.
In partnership with the Historic Monuments, expert craftsmen focused on a chapter of the past to revive an art of living that cares about the Medina's architectural heritage. The vaults of the former granary, once used to supply the royal family, became patios. Terraces on the upper floors overlook a fabulous treasure: the Mausoleum of the Saadian Princes. The decorative arts were given pride of place in all phases of this exemplary restoration. Wrought metal, sculpted wood, zellige tiling and noble materials offer far more than a backcloth: the privilege of a trip back in time, and the eternal beauty of Morroco.
Sustainability Initiatives +
As a company, we are committed to sustainability. Our aim is that each stay drives positive changes towards the conservation of Morocco’s natural environment and cultural heritage.
Enhancing the environment (i.e. reuse, recycle programs, energy/water conservation, elimination/reducing plastic water bottles, carbon emissions reduction, etc.)
To reduce plastic waste, we invested in a water production unit for La Sultana Marrakech. Based on our estimates, we now avoid over 78,000 glass & plastic bottles being carried around by trucks. We have also switched to a large-size refillable bath & shower amenities and we are collaborating with a recycling company. Since 2016, we have adopted energy saving practices in our daily activities including optional daily towel & bedsheets replacement, upgrading 80% of the lighting system to LED technology, bedroom key with automatic light switch-off… We do our best to monitor our water consumption with for instance separate water meter per area, drop by drop garden irrigation system or chemical-free swimming pools and jacuzzi cleaning system (ionization & UV).
Since 2022, we calculate and follow our carbon footprint. As it is not always possible to reduce carbon emissions without cutting on guests’ comfort, we created a Positive Impact fund. To do so, we convert our CO2 emissions to a Dirham value using a conversion factor of MAD350 per ton of CO2. We pledge to allocate 50% of our carbon emissions evaluation to a Positive Impact fund to finance earth-friendly projects and charities. Our financial contribution fosters activities that have positive impacts for Moroccan people and communities.
