The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

New York City ★★★★ Forbes 🗝🗝 MICHELIN

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES

Overview

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel has been a timeless classic since its debut in 1930. This quintessential New York hotel is as much a landmark for its distinguished guests and celebrated entertainers as it is for its refined style and old-world charm, providing a quiet and genteel "home away from home" to the world's elite. Steps away from Central Park, The Carlyle offers its guests gracious and romantic dining in Dowling's at The Carlyle, nightly jazz in Bemelmans Bar with its classic cocktails and whimsical murals by famed Madeline author Ludwig Bemelmans, and a true New York experience in the famed Cafe Carlyle where entertainer Bobby Short has performed for more than three decades.

Superbly positioned on chic Madison Avenue, The Carlyle is surrounded by the galleries and designer boutiques of New York's exclusive Upper East Side. Minutes from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim and the Frick, the Hotel is steps away from what is commonly referred to as "Museum Mile."

Designed by New York-based, award-winning design practice tonychi, the emotion of The Carlyle’s newly refreshed guest rooms are inspired by the glamour and beauty of Manhattan's pre-war era, the Upper East Side, and the dignified beau monde whose footsteps have graced the hallowed halls of this elegant and storied hotel residence. This is where quintessential apartment living meets modern day, with luxurious fixtures and furnishings, black-and-white lacquered paneling, bespoke, illustrated wallpapers of whimsical vignettes from Central Park—an echo of Ludwig Bemelmans and Marcel Vertès—and a thoughtful curation of artwork, books and collected everyday finds, all of which emanates a smart, residential look and feel worthy of this iconic hotel.

Located on the third floor, the Spa features the Yves Durif Hair Salon. Hair stylist to the stars, Yves Durif provides guests with the upmost grooming and pampering on the Upper East Side. The spa also features four treatments rooms, a relaxation room, a special couple’s suite and separate men’s and women’s changing rooms, each with their own steam room.

The Carlyle, with all its luxurious and modern conveniences, has a rich history of having been the hotel of choice for President Kennedy, Diana Princess of Wales, and an endless list of world leaders, business elite, and luminaries from stage and screen. The hotel is glorious proof that one need not be a Manhattan resident to feel like one.
