Patina Maldives, Fari Islands

Fari Islands Cutting-Edge Elegance ★★★★★ Forbes Ideal for: Design Enthusiasts, Socially Conscious Travelers

FARI ISLANDS, NORTH MALé ATOLL, MALDIVES

Our take

Marcio Kogan's biophilic architecture and a permanent James Turrell installation aren't accidental — Patina is built for people who find beauty intellectually, not just aesthetically. The Fari Marina Village delivers Michelin-starred dining and genuine social energy, which is either the point or the problem. Complimentary scuba lessons sweeten it further for the curious. But if you're chasing the castaway Maldives fantasy — deserted sandbank, no neighbours, silence — the shared island concept will grate. This is the archipelago for design obsessives and the culturally restless, not the romantically marooned.

Notable Features

  • Biophilic design by Marcio Kogan

💡 Insider Tip

"For an immersive art experience, visit at dawn or dusk to fully appreciate James Turrell's installation, Amarta, as it interacts with natural light."

Our Commitment to Sustainability:

  • Our interpretation of perpetuality is rooted in its belief in effecting and empowering lasting change - starting with nurturing sustainable values in tomorrow’s travellers. Patina Maldives’ pioneering kids centre, Footprints is entirely powered by solar power. Here kids can use laser cutting technology to make toys - energy saving prefabrication technique used in the construction of the resort’s villas. Budding marine biologists can sign up for free diving lessons - helping to raise awareness of the local ocean environment.
  • The resort has a strategic alliance with the Olive Ridley Project, organisation providing rehabilitation to injured turtles. In Jan-2022, a turtle was discovered entangled in ghost gear. Our marine biologist brought the turtle to Patina for initial assessment before relocating to an ORP rehabilitation centre.
  • The culinary concept on the island is based on the nose-to-tail, root-to-leaf-principle minimising waste & advocating the benefits of a plant-based diet. Roots, the signature outlet is the manifestation of the latter. Patina’s herb garden expanded to successfully grow a range of fruits and vegetables in 2022. Harvest from the garden is used in kitchens around the island to cater to Patina’s many restaurants.
  • Patina Maldives’ commitment towards reliance on renewable energy, plans are in place to expand its solar plant to provide 50 percent of the resort’s energy needs by 2030.
