Our take
Taormina has no shortage of grand gestures, but the San Pietro earns its terrace views — the Ionian stretching out below you, Etna brooding in the distance, the Greek theatre close enough to walk to before the tour groups arrive. The pool area is elegant without being showy. Bring someone you want to impress, or no one at all. If you need a full spa operation or want nightlife on tap, this isn't your base. But for two or three nights of Sicily at its most quietly devastating, nothing competes.
