Sustainability Initiatives +
Shangri-La Group is committed to serving as good stewards of the environment. The reduction of avoidable food waste is one of our key sustainability measures.
Shangri-La Singapore has implemented food waste management initiatives with selected kitchens utilising an eco-waste digester system since Dec 12, 2019. The system uses customised biotechnology to accelerate the natural decomposition of food waste whereby microbes breakdown the discarded food into non-portable water. This bio-enzyme infused water is then used to flush our sluice pipes, achieving a circular waste management process.
This is in alignment with Singapore’s Resource Sustainability Act in which by 2024, all malls and hotels are required to have to have a separate food waste segregation facility treated within premises or engaging a licensed waste collector to collect and send the waste to a licensed waste disposal facility.
Shangri-la Singapore also believes in bringing our guests the luxury they deserve, without compromising our natural resources. Our day-to-day operations promote and implement responsible environmental practices and continual improvement. In recognition of our commitment to serving as good stewards of the environment, we have received the Singapore Hotel Association Green Hotel Award 2019 and 2020 reflecting the hotel’s total commitment to environmental, social, legal and commercial practices.
The hotel had also been awarded the Green Mark Gold Award for 2020 by BCA.
