Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel

Vienna Heritage Luxury Ideal for: Food and Wellness Enthusiasts, High-End Travelers

VIENNA, AUSTRIA

Our take

Ringstrasse grandeur without the museum-piece stiffness — Palais Hansen is for the kind of guest who wants Vienna's largest Presidential Suite, a Michelin-starred dinner at EDVARD, and hydrotherapy before noon, all without leaving the building. The history is load-bearing here; this is a 19th-century landmark that actually delivers on its bones. Come for a long weekend of serious eating and serious sleeping. If you need hushed minimalism or a countryside retreat, look elsewhere — the city is loud and close, exactly as it should be.

Notable Features

  • Vienna's largest Presidential Suite
  • Michelin-starred EDVARD restaurant
  • Spacious Anantara Spa with hydrotherapy pool

Overview

Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel marks a new era of urban hospitality in Vienna. Designed by Baron Theophil Edvard von Hansen for the 1873 World’s Fair, this heritage palace is the city’s first urban luxury resort, blending history and modernity. With over 150 years of history, it showcases Viennese Neo-Renaissance architecture, featuring original marble floors, stucco ceilings, ionic columns, and heritage-listed staircases.

Located on the Ringstrasse in Vienna’s historic financial district, near the charming Servitenviertel, the hotel combines Viennese soul with cosmopolitan elegance. The 2025 renovation revitalized 152 guest rooms and suites, featuring warm neutrals, luxurious touches like marble bathrooms and Acqua di Parma amenities, and triple-glazing for uninterrupted rest. Select rooms have balconies, and the most exclusive offer views of the Ringstrasse.

The Presidential Suite, Vienna’s largest at 270 square meters, includes seven French balconies, a lounge with a grand piano, a dining area, and a wellness space with a marble bath. It can expand to four bedrooms, totaling 408 square meters.

A Virtuoso Culinary Community Hotel, the hotel’s gastronomic concept is threefold. EDVARD, the Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant impresses gourmets with avant-garde cuisine rooted in a low-waste philosophy by head chef Paul Gamauf; Theo’s Lounge & Bar transitions from a Viennese coffee house by day to a vibrant bar and mixology experience by night while Brasserie Sophie lets nostalgia and innovation intertwine, bringing Austrian cuisine with a global twist.

The 800-square-meter Anantara Spa embodies the brand’s ‘East meets West’ wellness philosophy, with a hydrotherapy pool, six treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, a Hammam-style steam bath, and a sanarium. High-tech therapies include intense pulsed light therapy, body contouring, and advanced facials. The adjacent state-of-the art fitness center complements the neighbourhood's scenic jogging routes along the Danube Canal and the Ringstrasse.

Unforgettable Experiences: At Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel, guests can join guided tours with a Hansen expert, visit the atelier Lobmeyr, or explore a scenic vineyard within the city limits. On property, Chefs lead cooking classes focusing on local classics like the famed Apple Strudel and Kaiserschmarren.

Celebrating our Culture in Vienna

On the 13th July of every year we celebrate the birthday of Theophil Hansen, the designer and architect of the beautiful Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel and deliver Birthday cards, amenities and offer complimentary walking tours to our guests who stay with us during his Birthday.

Theophil Edvard Hansen (13 July 1813 - 17 February 1891) was one of Vienna's most important architects. Many of the buildings that characterise the city today were designed by him, including the Parliament, the“Musikverein”, the Stock Exchange and of course, Palais Hansen. Originally from Denmark he lived for eight years in Athens, where he studied the Hellenistic architecture, for which he later became famous. In 1846 he arrived in Vienna and became the most outstanding representative of Viennese historicism. Hansen was very popular with the emperor and the Viennese: in 1866 he was granted Austrian citizenship and in 1883 he was appointed honorary citizen of the city of Vienna.
