Planted between The Broad and MOCA, this is downtown LA for people who actually want downtown LA — the cultural corridor on foot, Noe for a serious dinner, the Concert Hall a short walk away. It earns its keep as a base for the art-and-architecture crowd, or anyone with business at the civic center who refuses to stay somewhere anonymous. But if a pool is non-negotiable, or you're picturing resort sprawl and California sunshine by the water, keep looking. This is a city hotel, unambiguously — and that's precisely the point.
