The Old Cataract is where Agatha Christie wrote *Death on the Nile* — and the Nile it overlooks hasn't changed. Victorian sandstone, deep verandas, and that view: the Nile bending wide through Aswan, feluccas drifting past Elephantine Island at dusk. Come for the weight of it, the ceremony, the sense that the building itself has opinions. If you need sleek, contemporary, or urban, walk away — this place is emphatically old-world and proud of it. Two or three nights minimum; anything less is a waste of the journey.
