Nestled in the hillside overlooking the bay, Splendido is an emblem of Portofino’s enduring allure. This is where Mediterranean glamour meets effortless indulgence and stylish sociability: a place for cultivated connoisseurs to lounge by the iconic pool, celebratory cocktail in hand.
Splendido began life as a Benedictine monastery, then served as an aristocrat’s summer residence before being transformed into a hotel in 1902. The Duke of Windsor was the first to sign the Golden Book, after which a host of famous faces made it their sun-splashed retreat, from Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Today, the legend lives on. Behind Splendido’s wisteria-clad façade, beautiful rooms and suites reflect the palette of the Ligurian coast. Many enjoy balconies or terraces with captivating vistas. Terraced, palm-filled gardens and breezy outdoor spaces offer ample quiet corners to escape to. At night, twinkling lights among the foliage add another layer of enchantment. At the hotel’s heart, a heated saltwater pool affords dramatic views of the emerald sea. Sublime treatments can be enjoyed in the Jardin des Rêves Spa by Dior. Further facilities include a tennis court, gym and children’s club.
Exceptional dining options range from the celebrated La Terrazza to the reimagined Splendido Grill and convivial La Terrazza Bar. A courtesy shuttle or leisurely stroll takes guests into the hub of Portofino, where sister hotel Splendido Mare enjoys a prime position on the vibrant piazzetta.
Splendido’s elegant motorboat can be rented for nautical adventures. Further tailor-made activities include sunset cruises, local ecofarm tastings, Cinque Terre tours and exclusive visits to Genoa.

Among our many initiatives, the food and beverage operations of the majority of Belmond’s hotels, trains and river cruises are assessed by the UK-based Sustainable Restaurant Association. Belmond is the first global luxury hospitality brand to have undertaken this ongoing third-party testing.
