Charleston's historic district, done small and done well. The Nickel pulls off boutique without trying too hard — modern rooms, Southern detail, and a location that puts you inside the city rather than adjacent to it. If resort facilities are non-negotiable, look elsewhere. Two or three nights here and you'll leave knowing the city. That's the point.
