Cliffs & Gorges

Clifftop Uluwatu, Ubud's river gorges, and Bali's quiet east coast in one seamless circuit

The flight from Delhi lands at dawn. By noon, you are standing at the edge of a limestone cliff, 70 metres above the Indian Ocean. That is where this circuit starts — Alila Villas Uluwatu, then Amandari in Ubud, then Alila Manggis on the east coast. No backtracking. Alp Travel Co. handles every private transfer, so the route flows south to inland to east without friction. Each property earns its place on the itinerary. Each day has one anchor activity and room to breathe.

Seventy metres above the Indian Ocean, your holiday begins before you have even unpacked.

Uluwatu — Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bali

The cliff drops away below the infinity pool at Alila Villas Uluwatu. Your villa comes with a private plunge pool and direct sightlines to the water. On your first evening, Alp books you into the Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu Temple — arrive early for a front-row seat as the chanting builds at sunset. The next morning, book the Healing Village Spa’s Javanese Lulur scrub, performed in an open-air pavilion over the sea. End the afternoon at Single Fin Bar with a cold Bintang and a view of the surf break below.

DAYS 3–5

Ubud — Alila Ubud. Bali

A two-hour private transfer takes you north to Amandari, perched above the Ayung River gorge. Your suite terrace looks straight down into the tree canopy. Start with the Campuhan Ridge Walk — a 9 km trail through rice fields that most guests skip. Don’t. The following morning, Alp arranges a Balinese cooking class at a family compound in Penestanan: you shop the market, grind the spices, eat what you cook. One afternoon is left open. Use it for a private yoga session on the pavilion above the gorge.

  • Campuhan Ridge Walk · 2h Go at sunrise for cool air and empty trails
  • Tegenungan Waterfall guided visit · 2h Arrive early to beat crowds and enjoy a swim
  • Balinese cooking class in a jungle setting · 3h Best as a late morning activity with lunch
  • Private yoga session overlooking the Ayung River · 1.5h Book for early morning serenity
Private car · 2h Ubud→Manggis, private car, ~2h via Gianyar and Sidemen valley
DAYS 6–8

Manggis (East Bali) — Alila Manggis, Bali

The drive east to Alila Manggis takes roughly two and a half hours. The property sits between the sea and the foothills of Mount Agung, and your oceanfront room faces both. Alp includes access to the hotel’s Seaside Cooking School — a half-day program where you learn to make black rice pudding and fish in banana leaf. The following day, snorkel at Blue Lagoon, a sheltered bay with clear water and good coral close to shore. Close the trip with a walk through Tirta Gangga Water Palace at first light, before the tour groups arrive.

  • Snorkeling at Blue Lagoon · 3h Best in the morning for clear water and calm seas
  • Guided trek in Sidemen Valley · 4h Early start for cool temperatures and rice terrace views
  • Visit to Tirta Gangga Water Palace · 2h Go mid-morning to catch the palace in soft light
