Our take

Thirteen rooms, a restaurant that punches well above its postcode, and interiors that make most Scottish hotels look like they've given up. This is Inverness for people who eat first and sightsee second — couples who want drama in the décor and something serious on the plate. Don't come expecting a spa or a gym; there's none of that. Families and amenity-chasers should look elsewhere entirely. Two or three nights is the move — enough to do the Highlands justice without outrunning what this small, sharp property actually does.
