URQUILLOS, CUSCO REGION, PERU

Our take

Inca terraces on all sides, over 20 curated explorations, and a colonial mansion spa that earns its place without trying too hard — Explora Valle Sagrado is built for the traveler who wants Peru felt, not photographed. Biking the Urubamba, reaching villages most tourists never find: this is the itinerary. Skip it if your version of a Sacred Valley trip is poolside with a pisco sour. The exploration program is the point. Resist it and you've paid a serious premium for the wrong reasons.

Overview

Sacred Valley Located between Cusco and Machu Picchu, explora Valle Sagrado was designed as the base from where you can explore a remote and amazing site: the Sacred Valley of the Incas. All our programs include accommodation, transfers, meals and beverages, and a selection of more than 20 exclusive explorations developed by explora. Through our explorations, you can visit from Cusco to Machu Picchu, passing by remote villages, archaeological sites such as Ollaytantambo, Moray, Chinchero and Pisac, and this region’s high peaks, like La Verónica or Incañan. Built amid Inca remains and terraces, our hotel is located in one of the remotest haciendas of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The lands have an ancient cornfield and the Casa de Baños Pumacahua, a colonial mansion that belonged to Peru’s hero, Mateo Pumacahua, and the current location of the hotel’s Spa. All of this makes explora Valle Sagrado a unique site in the region.

Why explora?

Exploring the Sacred Valley and its surroundings extensively and using a hotel immersed in Inca history as base, is explora Valle Sagrado’s proposal for its travelers to have an exclusive experience. Located between Cusco and Machu Picchu and 600 meters below the height of the ancient Inca capital city, our destination is the perfect starting point to explore this area.

Spa Pumacahua Bath House - The Pumacahua Bath House is an old colonial manor located on one side of the hotel’s corn terraces. Rescued by our restoration and archeology team, it contains the hotel’s spa where our guests can enjoy massages, heated swimming pools and saunas.

Priviledged views - Traveling through archaeological Inca sites, following the course of the Urubamba River by bike, visiting Machu Picchu or arriving at a glacier nearby Cusco are some of the explorations carefully designed by explora for its travelers. Through more than 20 options to explore, either walking, by van or riding a bike, our travelers discover from traditional villages still untouched by globalization to perfectly preserved ancient traces and lost lagoons in the Andean pampa.

Explorations - explora Valle Sagrado offers our guests more than 20 exploration activities, either on foot or bicycle. Our guides will take our travelers to experience the area’s unique geography and Andean culture in all it richness.

Sustainability - Given the region's outstanding ancestral and cultural heritage, the commissioning and construction of the Valle Sagrado project was done in the most responsible way, working in close coordination with the Peruvian archeology institute. At the same time, we worked with the area's communities and we hope – starting as from this year – to establish a conservation and social responsibility program.

All Inclusive - Since we believe that it is important to leave all daily concerns behind, our hotels are all inclusive: explorations, food, beverage, and transport.

Sustainability Initiatives +

As in each of our destinations, guests are encouraged to connect with the powerful culture and local patrimony of the Sacred Valley. Not only in the explorations they take every day, but also on the hotel premises.

During its construction, Explora Valle Sagrado started a project of restoration of more than 500 m2 of Inca Terraces that were used to crop the traditional corn & quinoa, among others. Nowadays, they are being used for the same purposes they were built for, 500 hundred years ago.

The restoration also included a colonial house built in the XVIII century, with fresh paints on its walls and traditional Spaniards construction style.
