Seven rooms, each commissioned from a local artist, in the dead center of one of Mexico's most obsessively beautiful colonial towns. La Valise is for the couple who'd rather have a private terrace above the rooftops than a pool with a swim-up bar. The design is serious — not decorator-hotel serious, but genuinely idiosyncratic. If you need a spa, a gym, or anything that scales, walk away. This is two or three nights of San Miguel done with real taste.
